I had to think hard about going too without Tim. It was rough last time, but Lydia was just a baby. They are all more self sufficient now. I don't think I'd do it again with a baby.

I am all about frugal vacations. We do a lot of day trips to museums and attractions and go on their free or discount days. I made a file folder for all of the places I would like to go and just requested a vacation book from our own state to get the coupons and discounts. The guide book gave me some more ideas for things to do too!

DO NOT under any circumstances collect seashells or take away a piece of local eco-system. in some areas it's against local believes, like Hawaii, in others - it is illegal. I didn't think frugal travel included destroying environment while vacationing. it is neither frugal nor smart.

I was contemplating the Florida trip but I think I am going to pass - too many variables. I am excited about Maine, though.

Another frugal tip would be to take up a hobby like Letterboxing or Geocaching. We have done both in at least six different states and really it has taken us places we normally would not have found. In Maine we ended up in the remains of a partially built castle. In the Outer Banks we found a park with woods and a nice little hike - not your typical beach vacation find. Either way, they are cheap hobbies and fun for all ages! Maybe we can get you hooked while we are in Maine...LOL.

PS- We also get together months before and divide up items to bring like paper towels, condiments, hand soaps, etc. That saves a lot on the packing/hauling end and prevents everyone buying double.

I guess I never thought of our annual trip to Canada as frugal, but we share a cabin with Mike's parents and we bring fish home that lasts all year long. We also don't do much of anything in the form of entertainment besides fish and hang out at the little beach there. We cook all of our meals and we catch one or two of our meals as well!
