We are planning on picking up some blueberry, raspberry, blackberry plants soon. I got pears once, guess I should research how to take better care or them. We'd go to pick your own, pick as much as I thought we'd need, go home and process - canned applesauce, frozen blueberries. When I had access to a pear tree, I made pear sauce and canned pear slices.<BR/><BR/>Broccoli is a wonderful fall plant, in New England it can be grown thru the first couple of light frosts.<BR/><BR/>For myself, spreading the harvest out over several months - strawberries in June, blueberries in July, apples in Sept & Oct, broccoli in the spring and fall - evened out the work, especially with children,house,husband to care for.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33624471.post-79213434878148481862008-04-03T10:52:24.411-04:002008-04-03T10:52:24.411-04:00how about peanuts? We got a banana tree last year, apple trees this year, blueberries, strawberries, rhubarb, horseradish and asparagus. Broccoli, I wonder if you could make a cold frame for it over there? It's actually a perennial here. As for coffee, I wish I could develop a taste for chicory coffee but haven't done it yet...<BR/><BR/>The dairy--we're right there with you. Eggs too. We don't have chickens yet. Fish--have you considered putting in a small pond? Backwoods home has a great permaculture article.
