I find the most effective way for me to "get rid of" my money is chuck it into my mortgage. I've made a goal to put $500 into savings and $500 into mortgage principle every month. Surprise, surprise, it's easier to keep the $500 into mortgage goal because once it's in there, it's not coming out.

I'm trying to pay off one credit card by doubling my payment each month. I do this right away, and if I have to 'find' money to make up the difference, I do it by cashing in change or bottles/cans...or by 'shopping' in my pantry first (in other words, not spending.). I'm also learning to ask myself, "do I really need this?" 9/10 times, I've either got a perfectly good substitute at home, or I realize it's just another dust collector.
And I do think your purchases sound 'fun,' LOL! I would love to have some homegrown blueberries or strawberries. (You can keep the asparagus.)
