Just Can't Help It

I've lost track of how many apples I've processed.

I try to keep a notebook for the garden and preserving to help me plan for the next year, but somewhere around the beginning of September, I stopped recording the apples. Even not recording anything the last two weeks, I know that my mom and I have put up more that 77 quarts of sauce, 25 quarts of sliced, and 18 pints of apple butter. I've dehydrated 4 batches also. That is a lot of apples.

Yet this is in my kitchen today.

Yesterday we went to pick the wild apples in the pasture. I just can't help myself. They are there. They are free. And my mom got a new fruit picker we wanted to try out. We probably would have picked more, but they high winds were a deterrent.

As I type, there is a crock pot full of apples destined for apple butter and 8 half pints of apple pie in a jar sitting on the counter. I've been informed by my husband that I must make more dried apples too. He has decided they are the perfect at work snack for him. He eats them as fast as I can make them.

For those of you who aren't into the whole preserving the harvest thing, my apologies. I realize that the canning and preserving posts have taken over this blog lately. I will try to get in a little more variety, and the harvest season is almost over! Thanks for hanging in there with me!

Sounds like we've been spending our time in similar ways. Good for you :-)

Also thanks for the tip about Amazon Grocery Clearance. I ordered a few items and tried to make sure it would show up under your referral id. Fingers crossed :-)

Kind Regards.

Holy smokes. That is alote of apples. I was proud of myslef for canning 8 pints and making some jelly...I guess I have some catching up to do. LOl. you must bake with the applesauce. It is great to substitute for oil in making recipes.

Niki,
the first year we were here I did quite a few apples, but not nearly this much. Last year we had no apples, so this year I am stocking up!

I am just starting to use applesauce in baking. I made some Amish bread the other day with applesauce and chopped apples. It was soooo good!
