The Man's Thrift Store

Several months ago, I noticed a sign for a ReStore near the Aldi I shop. The sign said they had discounted building supplies and supported Habitat for Humanity. I thought it was interesting, and then never really thought much about it.

Then last month, while helping my brother and sister-in-law move I saw the fabulous ceiling fan they got at their ReStore. It was new in the box, but missing a small clip or something that was easy to replace. They got the fan for less than half of the regular retail price.

Since we have one ceiling fan that is not working and two that are just plain ugly, we thought it would be worth stopping into our local store for a look. Tim stopped in a few weeks ago. There really wasn't anything that fit our needs then. He stopped in yesterday and there were some things we've been looking for. He found a ceiling fan, and an upright freezer.

He also learned something new about the store. Our store gives a discount on one item for double the day of the month it is. Yesterday was the 31st so the discount was 62%. He walked out with a large ceiling fan and a freezer for $40! Both are used and the freezer needs to be painted, but how can you beat that deal?

I asked Tim to describe the store. He said it is like a giant garage sale without the clothes and toys; a man's garage sale. They have a variety of new and used building and home improvement supplies. Items are donated by contractors and individuals. The proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity. I too had never heard of the restore until mitchell's frig went ( about 6 weeks ago ) and we kept checking and sure enough not only did a nice one come in but also a washer and dryer set that if it was in in sears you would have thought it was brand new,Mitchell bought the washer and I bought the dryer and at VERY good prices! There's one of these in Wooster, too. I've enver been in there, but I hear there's a ton of building materials, cabinets and appliances.
Man's thrift store... I like that!

These stores are fabulous! It's a little hit or miss, though.

In SC we got a solid oak table with 6 chairs f0r $60.

I've regularly gotten chairs for $10 or so, they have cabinets and door handles, too.

We love our reStore. We don't get there very often but we get great deals when we're out that way. I've been contemplating a deep chest freezer. IF we could get a great deal and get the garage cleaned out!

Thanks, we haven't checked ours out because of the distance. But we'll be out that way tomorrow and I think Superman might enjoy it!

Thanks for sharing this! I've never heard of the ReStore before. I checked the link you gave and there is a couple not to far from us. This will definitely come in handy as we slowly remodel.

Have a blessed day!

Toni,
I know exactly what you mean!

That is a great tip. They have one here and I think it is such a great idea. It is like thrift shopping though and I think you need to go often if you are looking for something specific, but it is such a great idea!!

Love this tip!
