Profitable Shopping
It is official, I'm hooked on CVS. It has taken me a few weeks to get the hang of it, and to accumulate coupons to really make it fun, but it is starting to pay off! There are many bloggers who are much more into it than I, like Delilah, BeCentsAble, or I *heart* CVS. There are forums just for discussing shopping at CVS. My favorite can be found at hotcouponworld. I don't want to create another CVS blog, but just could not resist sharing with you the fabulous deal I got yesterday.
I purchased a three pack of Mach3 razors, a 4.0 tube of Colgate Total, an Oral-B pulsar toothbrush, and a tube of LypSyl lip balm. The total cost: $0.24 and the store gave me $10.98 to spend later. Another way to look at it is I made $10.74 to buy those four items! I'm telling you, this is fun!
Here is how it all happened.
The razors:
Sale price: $7.99
Coupon: $3.00
Extra Bucks: $5.00
The toothpaste:
Sale price: $2.99
Extra Bucks: $2.99
The lip balm:
Sale price $2.99
Extra Bucks: $2.99
The toothbrush:
This was an "oops." I bought the wrong toothbrush. The monthly flier has the Oral-B Cross Action Toothbrush for free, after the extra bucks. The weekly flier has the Oral-B Pulsar Vibrating Toothbrush on sale, no extra bucks. I got confused somehow. It happens, especially when I have children who aren't co-operating. (I'll name no names!)
Sale price: $4.99
Coupon: $1.00
CVS Extra Bucks used: $15
Cash spent: $0.24
CVS Extra Bucks earned: $10.98
If I would have picked up the right toothbrush, I would have earned another $4.99 in extra bucks, bringing the total to $15.97 to spend later. Now, that would have been impressive, but I'm happy with the deal I did get. Learn from my mistake, and pay close attention to the items, or maybe just go without the kids!

CVS CVS CVS thats all I hear how great CVS is. But I don't have one in our town:( It's not fair. I have to go 50 miles before I hit one.
I can't imagine not having a CVS for 50 miles!!! Here is the deal. I have been going to CVS about 3 times a week. I am not going at getting it down to .24 cents or anything like that. I keep making mistakes (like the toothbrush one!). And I have more toothpaste than I will use in the next year. I plan to make a stop at Safe Landing this week to drop it off to them (oh, and I think there is a CVS by there...). Our CVS was out of the razors by Sunday afternoon - so I need to venture out other places!
BTW...I may blog about this myself but I have noticed my family (including myself) has been sick off and on since I started this CVS thing. It is crazy because we rarely get sick. I remember you guys were all sick right before we were. We started CVSing around the same time. Anyone else notice that?
I had no idea good deals could be had at CVS. I went to their website, and there is one in my town. I'm going to check them out and hopefully get some deals!
Delilah,
50 miles? it makes you cry doesn't it? I love the idea of donating the extra items!
getting sick and going to CVS, do you think it is a conspiracy?
Ah Becky,
Hope you signed up for the card. There are deals to be had!
I got five tubes of toothpaste, two packages of razors, and a Dove Bar for about $2 today. And I came out with more ECB than I went in with. :)
I did two transactions at 29th St. and the guy thought I was just the most clever shopper in the world. He wanted me to go back and spend the rest of my ECB. But, alas, the kids were waiting... and I don't really think he realized how endless it could be. LOL
I am a CVS addict. Thanks for the links so I can keep getting my fix ;)
I actually had the best thing happened. I got reacquainted with an old friend from high school and she happens to work for CVS. I mentioned my "addiction" and she said that they throw out expired food all of the time and she wanted to know if I wanted her to keep it for my family. Now she brings over food and deeply discounted beauty products (she pays ten cents or a quarter for the items with her discount) and gives them to me. This week I got Starbucks coffee, cookies, three things of lotion, lip gloss, etc.. I feed her a homemade dinner for the evening and always offer to give her money, but she said she is just happy to give the stuff to us. Totally blessed AGAIN by CVS :)
Our closest CVS is HOURS away! I just went there for the first time on Monday when I was visiting my sister. I can see why it's addictive. We got some of the same deals you did, and also hit Walgreens! That lip balm is awesome!
Mary,
Didn't make it last night, but am trying your method on Thursday when we have to run yet more errands!
Amy,
That is fantastic! It pays to know the right people! :)
Carrie,
Love the lip balm too!
