Where's My Substitute?
One thing I do miss about my days of working outside the home is the ability to call in a substitute. When I was sick I could stay home, call for a substitute, and not have to worry about my normal daytime responsibilities. It just doesn't work like that for stay at home mom's. When we are sick the daytime responsibilities don't change much.
Thankfully Tim has a somewhat flexible schedule and was able to come home early yesterday. He was able to get the kids dinner, clean up a bit, and put the kids to bed, but by the time he got home much of the damage was already done.
Four kids on mostly self serve mode while mom is on the couch half asleep can wreak havoc on a house. Today I feel better, but am still not up to full speed. Monday and Tuesday are always busy days for us. By not getting anything done yesterday, and very little today I am feeling slightly buried.
So what to do? Prioritize.
- Find the kitchen & sweep the floors. Something about having a decent kitchen just seems to set everything into motion for me. Weird maybe? And having the floors swept makes the house feel cleaner even when it is far from clean. This slight bit of cleanliness keeps me from feeling quite so buried. Done.
- Post a late assignment. Used cisco Done.
- Get groceries I'm not going to take the time to do the whole shopping trip, but must get out for at least an Aldi stop, and seeing how CVS is right next door, how could I resist? Next on the list as soon as Vivian wakes up.
- Laundry This is usually started on Monday. As much as I'd like to ignore it, it must get started, but probably not until tomorrow.
Until we find a way to have substitute mommies, I guess mom's who get sick will just have to cope. We can only do what we can do. Writing down the bare essentials of what needs to get down can help us get back on our feet again.

CVS ended up owing me money yesterday. (giggle) I had to add a pack of gum to get myself out of the negatives after using my coupons and ECB from last week. So I paid 23c and walked away with two bags of stuff and $7 of ECB for next week. So, yeah, you should definitely squeeze in CVS. :)
You aren't kiddin! It's bad enough being a full time mommy when you're sick but then there is the added responsibility of being in charge of their education! No putting them on the bus and snoozing for a few extra hours. Even when you're not sick there's no one to write a note to. I think I'm going to start writing Chris notes "Dear Mr. N, Your child T was exceptionally unruley today. He has the vast majority of his seat work to complete. Please be sure he has said work completed in time for the start of class tomorrow."
When you are sick, you just have to forget about keeping the house perfect and take care of you. It's good you cut down your list and called in for backup help!

I was sick last Sunday~ like hit by a truck and flogged with a wet noodle sick. I know just what you mean. I think you may have stumbled upon an untapped service- "mommy for hire". You could hire a sub for the day or for an evening to do your shopping, cooking or cleaning. Hmmm.....
