That Works for a Headache?
The other day I ran across something that mentioned you could use Botox for headaches. I had never heard of such a thing. I mentioned it to a friend. She said that she had heard of it, and thought it worked because it deadens the nerve endings. I did a little research, and found that to be the case. Find out more about how it works at Medications: Botox: Not just for faces. Who knew?
It seems a bit extreme to me, but then again I do not suffer from chronic headaches. In fact, I rarely get headaches. I am not sure if we even have any headache medicine in the house. If I do get one I usually just tough it out, but there are a few others things that I've found to work well.
1. Send the kids outside to play.
90% of the time the headache is gone instantly.
2. Send myself outside to play.
A little fresh and sunshine can do wonders.
3. Drink some coffee.
I've read someplace before about why it works. It has something to do with the blood vessels in your head changing size. That is also why you get headaches when you go cold turkey off caffeine. I don't know, but it works.
4. Drink some water.
Even slight dehydration gives me headaches. A big glass of water will do the trick.
5. Take a nap.
Who am I kidding? Naps, while effective for headaches, simply don't happen with four kids running around all day.
Botox is an option for those with chronic headaches, and migraines. I'm glad that I do not fall into that category. What do you do when you get a headache?

I'm lucky in that I don't get headaches that often. 85% of the time, when I get a headache, it is due to dehydration, and a glass or two of water quickly remedies the problem. The other 15% of the time, it means I'm sick in some other way, like allergies, and a half-dose of headache or allergy medicine does the trick (or, as you said, a nap!).
I don't like taking medicine, ever, so I use it as minimally as possible.
Fresh air usually does it for me but mine are usually sinus headaches which started when i lived in Tx ( we always talked about having "Texas Sinuses" )
I usually drink HOT coffee, take a small amount of sinus meds and TRY to take a nap but like you said it is difficult to do at times.
I do get migraines...but only very rarely. Usually they are related to the weather, low blood sugar or stress. I have found dripping ice-cold water on the top of my head to be effective. If it's a sinus headache, the neti pot sometimes works, as will drinking more water and massaging the sinus cavities. For migraines: sleep, throwing up, aleve...
Sometimes the glass of water you drink with the meds is actually what got rid of the headache. I rarely got headaches but when I did it was sinus headaches so I've started using a neti pot earlier in the year and I can't remember my last headache.
caffeine is a vaso-constrictor which means it constricts or narrows blood vessels. When you have a headache, the blood in your head is pumping through the vessels really fast. Constricting them, stops (or at least slows down) this overflow of blood and can help to lessen the headache.
FYI!
