More Repurpose, Recycle TT#10
Last week I shared some of the things that we repurpose around the homestead in Repurpose and Recycle TT#9. As promised, here is another list.
1. Last week I talked about our back decks. This is our side deck. Near us are some large TV towers. This is a platform used to ship part of one of the towers. Yes, we had permission to take it.
2. Another old tire makes a great swing for the kids.
3. Pardon my clutter. These shelving units and several others we have, came from my husband's former employer. When they shut the local location down, they were going to throw all of these away.
4. This is also from the TV tower. A shipping crate. If you enlarge the picture, you will see the call letters from the TV station. We are using it to store feed for the animals.
5. Sometimes we will get Whale- a- Pail type ice cream for parties or what not. We use these buckets for a number of things. Here one is serving as a compost bucket until the scraps are taken out to the pile. They also work well as little cleaning buckets for the kids, to freeze large batches of things like sloppy joes for parties, to carry animal feed, and to store crayons. Of course, you want to keep separate buckets for those you use for food and those you don't. Don't want your sloppy joe tasting like Pine Sol!
6. & 7. Tomato stakes made from scraps of boards from other projects. The best ties for your tomatoes are old pantyhose cut into strips.
8. An old coffee container holds Homemade Laundry Soap. Don't worry it is labeled on the lid. No chance of mixing the two up! Wouldn't that be a morning eye opener?!
9. Shopping bags are perfect liners for small trash cans.
10. We can't seem to manage to keep a full set of drinking glasses for more than a few months. Canning jars make great glasses. Tim actually prefers them, and no one has ever broken one!
11. I buy most of my spices at the bulk food store. They come in these containers which are perfect single size storage containers after the spices are gone. We use these a lot for baby sized servings, packed lunches, and packing dips for picnics.
12. This is Mamaw's, but since we live on the same property, I thought it was fair game for this post. This is an old time cream separator being used as a planter.
13. This is Mamaw's too, but one that I need. It was a sauerkraut
jar and is now brewing sun tea. I could use a few more gallon glass jars. Not sure I could talk the family into eating a gallon of sauerkraut though. Pickles maybe?

That's a great post, good for you to do all this. I try my best too. The more people do it, the better!
My TT is about handfasting this week.
Great list!
I was at a restaurant the other day on vacation and they used canning jars as glasses too!
Also, I use shopping bags as trash bags in my bathroom trash can...they are the perfect size and we always have plenty!
Happy TT!
Wonderful post (and no, I don't just copy/past that to all the posts)! I went to check out your laundry soap recipe and will try it myself. Thank you!
We always had and still do use canning jars as glasses and the pantyhose....I remember my mom using the old ones for the garden! Great list! Happy TT!
We drink out of canning jars too! :)
Happy TT!
I love to re-purpose things! It's fun to be creative. I use canning jars to hold my tiny fabric crumbs...it looks pretty! I wish I could drink out of canning jars but the rims drive me nuts! lol! Great Tt!
Wonderful repurpose and recycle post. We need to continue to share ideas about reusing and recycling items. Everyday I think of something new that I could be doing better...
Awesome list!! Spread the word!
Those are great. I buy my spices like that too, but I always find that those little plastic containers take up way too much room on my spice shelf! Worth it though since they're so much fresher.
Happy TT.
Your ideas are wonderful and I could sure use some of them in the future.
I also line my small trash cans with the plastic grocery bags.
Happy Thursday!
Greta list!
You have earned an award.

These are some of my favorite posts. I use the bags for trash cans, too. I noticed the canning jar in the video of Nolan. Good idea. I also LOVE Linda's planter!! CUTE!
Awesome TT. I which I could have a tire swing for my kids. But I live in a home owners association and they don't allow them. I had one growing up and would spend hours on them!
I have dropped a jar from shoulder height. and it hasn't broken. I like the wide mouth quart jars the best.
I have not seen porch tea in a while. Great memory, and nothing wrong with frugality... happy tt
Great ideas! I reuse the plastic grocery sacks as garbage can liners too. :) I would love to know the "recipe" for your homemade detergent.
I really like that planter. It looks Dr. Seussish...
Great list and good job with your recycling! Happy TT!
Great ideas. Happy TT.
I love those tips!
Hey, coffee cans can also be used to make HARD cheeses. Instead of buying a $200 press you use a coffee can and some old weights (the ones I never use in my basement..lol..)
I also know some people who use coffee cans to store greese from the foods they cook.
People used to recycle motor oil for horses feet. Not anymore tho..
I love to recyle myself.
Great post.. Like always!

Dora,
Around here a lot of people use old motor oil to "paint" their barns and other out buildings. It protects the wood and leaves it a nice gray weathered color.
Good to see that people are trying to reuse instead of just putting things in landfill.
I want to try out your recipe for the washing up detergent. I've used bicarb of soda already to get smells out of clothes to great success.
