Make It From Scratch #19

Welcome to another great edition of Make It From Scratch! Maybe you lurk here, and wonder why we make all these things ourselves. Making things from scratch often does take more time, yet many of us still do it. Some of us make things from scratch to save money, for better quality, or just for the sense of pride and accomplishment that comes when you've done it for yourself. Sometimes we are motivated by all those reasons. So, come join us. See what we are making. We are making things from scratch the whole day through.

In the morning gather the family for a multitude of homemade breakfasts treats. On days you have more time cook breakfast from the seasonal harvest, or pancakes with wild blackberry syrup. For days you need something a bit quicker, serve toast with strawberry jam, cottage cheese, breakfast bars or granola bars that you've made ahead. Pack lunch for those who won't be home in a reusable lunch bag, or as it works in my house, have them pack their own.

Now that everyone is up and moving you can spend the morning working on the wedding dress for your sister, or maybe do some make ahead cooking like bulk brownie mix or a loaf of egg bread for dinner tonight.

You and the kids can have leftovers from last night's dinner for lunch. Oh that spaghetti with white clam sauce was so good. It is even better the second time around. Show the kids the awesome homemade pop up card that came in the mail today, and then hide it before they tear it apart.

After lunch send them out to play. It is summer after all! As you are cleaning up, you realize there is a clog in the drain. Ugh! No worries it will be gone in no time with your homemade drain cleaner.

Ahhhh, a few minutes of peace and quiet. The perfect time to work on those silk flower brooches. So pretty and only costing you about $5. And the department store wanted $60. Ha!

Soon the kids are asking, "What's for dinner mom?" They are pleased to hear, "Tater Tot Casserole. " The whole family is home, and you put on your apron to get dinner started. The kids will even be more excited when they see the chocolate chip cookie dessert. You don't have to tell them it is low fat.

With dinner done, dishes cleaned up and kids in bed put on your comfy hand dyed socks, and enjoy a beer with your spouse. Sit out and star gaze, and enjoy each others company.

Next week is Challenge Week! This is the week I challenge you to make something you've never made before. Be brave! Try something new. You may enter posts about things you've made before, but everyone (well it is only open to those in the US sorry!) who is up to the challenge will be entered into a drawing. The prize? Choose Homemade Buttermilk Pancake Mix, Cornbread Mix, or Vanilla Coffee Mix. Hope to see you try something new for the next carnival!
