So Much in Common
Frugal, Green, Self Sufficient, Simple Living, Good Stewards, Eco-Friendly, Sustainable, Naturalist, Environmentalist, Homesteading, Back to Basics. . .
These and many more are terms used to describe blogs I frequent and the bloggers who frequent Stop the Ride! Some of these terms fit me better than others, but there are things I learn from all these perspectives.
We use cloth diapers, carry babies in a sling, dry much of our laundry on a line, make detergents, and cook from scratch. We raise animals and vegetables for food. We eat wild animals and plants. We live in a 100 Acres of Woods, where my parents also live. We live in a mobile home, but want to build an earth bermed home. We buy most things second hand, use our things as long as possible, and then try to find a new uses for them. We teach our kids about nature, and to be in awe of the wonderful creation we've been given. So, does all that make me green? frugal? a homesteader? (or maybe just a bit weird?) Does it matter?
I love that in the blog world you can meet, interact with and learn from so many people with so many different outlooks on life. I'm not so naive to believe, that all of us who describe ourselves with those different labels see everything eye to eye. Our motivations may be different, but our actions are often the same.
Life from any of those perspectives will be simpler, less expensive, less materialistic, better for the environment, and in my opinion, more enjoyable. I've enjoyed learning from those who see things from a slightly different perspective, and seeing that we really don't see things that differently after all.

If you can do more with less, why not! I would
I'd love to hear you talk more about your veggie growing and wild plant eating. It's all so interesting. :) I'm always looking for new ways to cut corners on expenses and use less resources.
Do you hunt or fish?
Great post! I agree, being environmentally aware and being frugal definitely seems to go hand in hand!
Alexandra,
Ask and you shall receive. :)
I haven't posted much about veggies b/c I haven't done much for awhile. This year should be different.
I did a little foraging this AM will post soon about those wild foods. Some of the older wild foods posts are at 100 Acre Woods if you are interested.
Tim hunts (deer only so far) Last fall was his first season. He got a good sized button buck. We'd like to have more though.
Fishing is not something we do. We love fish though. It would be a good hobby to add for all our spare time! LOL
Amy,
Thanks.
Thanks Stephanie. Dh doesn't hunt, but some of his coworkers do. I'm trying to get dh to bring home some venison!
I'll check out some of the older posts.
What a wonderful, touching, and insightful post! It was a joy to read and thank you for sharing your thoughts. Your site is becoming a must read for me.
