How Many Wal Marts do I need?

Not to open a can of worms, I know some of you love Wal-Mart and some of you hate Wal-Mart. I do not have a real strong opinion about Wal-Mart either way. I do shop there, because it is convenient. I do not do the majority of my shopping there. If you have strong opinions about the store, that is fine, but not really what this post is about. Just thought that needed said!

Regardless of how you feel about Wal-Mart, I wonder how many stores, of any type, you think would be adequate for area shopping needs? I am living in Wal-Mart heaven. Tim and I have talked about this before, and this weekend we saw, yet another, store going in not too far from here. It got me wondering.

I went to Walmart.com, and entered my zip code to get the store finder results. Do you want to venture a guess? How many Wal-Marts do you think there are within 30 miles of here?

Within 10 miles, there are two.
Within 20 miles, two more, bringing the total to four.
Within 30 miles there are five more, bringing the total to nine.

Nine huge Super Wal-Mart stores within 30 miles! Don't believe me? Check it out for yourself. The search resulted 13 stores. The farthest one away being about 45 miles, but that is not the end of the story.

We know of two new stores being built. One is less than 20 miles away, between stores one and five if you look at the map. The other is farther away, near Portsmouth, but probably within 50 miles. I don't care who you are, or how you feel about Wal-Mart, that is a whole lot of Wal-Marts, and more than I need.
