Consignment Update

As promised, here is an update on Consigning for a Cause. I wish I would have written down the exact numbers, but roughly the total sales for the weekend were $68,000, with the ministry making more than $20,000. That is quite the fund raiser!

I took in 68 items, eight of which were rejected. They had faint stains on them I had missed. Of the remaining 60 items, all but 3 sold. 16 items sold Saturday for 1/2 price. (You have the option of allowing your clothing to be marked down on Saturday.) My totals:

Full Price Items $104
Half Price Items $25.50
Total Sales $129.50
30% donated to charity (tax deductible) $38.85
Administrative fee (paid up front) $5.
My Profit $85.65

Not a fortune, but not bad for a few hours work, that also cleaned out closets I needed to anyway. It will be a nice double payment for a credit card.

This sale happens twice a year for clothing, and once a year for toys. The kids have been warned we will be cleaning out for the toy sale in the fall. They seemed to be ok with that. As an added incentive, I think I may let them keep part or all of the money from the toy sale to use for their Christmas shopping.

I will be doing the clothing sales again. I like this better than taking it to the stores. There obviously is a lot of traffic at these sales. Things sell well. Cosigners are paid a higher percentage, and the rest of the money goes to charity. Sellers get their money immediately in one big chunk, instead of a little bit at a time over a few months. It is more work than using a consignment store, but in my mind it is worth the extra effort.
