In the interest of not losing this,
Normally, I am a pretty organized person. . . under all the clutter. No, maybe I should say it this way; I like being organized, but at this point, often find things not very organized. My recipes are a perfect example. All of my recipes are together, but the ones that are not part of a book are just a pile of loose papers in the cupboard. There are a lot of loose papers.
Today, I wanted to make one of my favorite cakes, Jessie's Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake. This is a friend's recipe. I think it actually originated with her mother-in-law. Anyhow, I couldn't find it. I had a small panic and dug through the papers again. Not there. Finally, I pulled out some of the books and there is was stuck in the back. The cake is cooling as I type.
Instead fixing the real problem, and organizing the loose recipes, I thought, "I should put this on my blog. Then if I can't find the paper again, I will be able to find it on my blog. Oh yeah, and maybe some other people might like the recipe too." So, in the interest of me not losing this recipe, here it is.
Jessie's Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake
The Cake
2 C sugar
1/2 C butter
2 C flour
3 TB cocoa
1/4 tsp salt
2 eggs
1 C water
1 tsp baking soda
1/3 C oil
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 C buttermilk
Mix sugar, flour, and salt in a large bowl. Add eggs
Bring water, oil, butter, and cocoa to a boil. Add baking soda, vanilla, and buttermilk.
Mix with dry ingredients. Pour into greased 9x13 pan.
Bake at 350 F 25-30 minutes. Allow cake to cool.
The Frosting
1/2 C peanut butter
2 1/2 C powdered sugar
2 TB butter
1/2 C milk
6 oz chocolate chips
1 tsp. vanilla
2 TB corn syrup
While stirring, slowly heat peanut butter, butter, and chocolate chips until melted. Add remaining ingredients and frost cooled cake.
Now, I will always know where to find this recipe. Maybe you will enjoy it too!

Oh this sounds like it would go over very well with my husband, a real peanut butter lover.
Sounds yummy! I keep my recipes in one of those small plastic 4x6 photo albums. You can even quarter-fold a paper to fit in one of the slots.
That sounds delicious! Great minds must think alike too because that is how I keep track of my recipes. It is pretty sad when I have to go down to the computer because I misplaced a recipe card. Thank goodness for these blog back-ups :)
This is the best choclate cake I eat. Wait, it is the only chocalte cake I eat. Amish style with a bowl of milk...
I buy the small photo albums like for a 4-6 photo. I use one for Cake's One for pie's ,and so on. That way you can find a recipe you cut out real easy. Mabel
Organization is a rare and wonderful thing around our house. I started posting recipes for exactly that reason! Now I have Jesse's cake to add to my piles... thanks!
Sounds yummy! And don't feel bad about the "not losing it thing" I have so many recipes I just created a blog for that...
I totally do the same thing- look at my blog to find recipes I know I posted on my blog (so they WERE written down... and some point...) but can't find in my recipe box.
Unfortunately, DH is allergic to peanuts, so I won't be getting to try the frosting, anyway. The cake recipe looks delicious!
Sounds yummy! Glad you found a way to keep the recipe safe ;)
This sounds delicious! I use my blog as a big personal bookmark/cooking journal...good way not to lose recipes! ;)
