Stolen Moments

Whether you work or are at home, quiet moments, alone are hard to come by. Sometimes they come in surprising places. One place I can steal a quiet moment is hanging laundry on the line.
Even though laundry is often overwhelming to me, I love to hang it on the line. Yesterday, I was hanging table cloths and towels up and it was so peaceful. It was a beautiful fall day, in the 60's and sunny. There was a light breeze that rustled the leaves that remain on the trees, and the birds were singing. It was a perfect day to be outside, yet I had responsibilities to tend to inside, except for those moments stolen at the clothes line.
I use the clothes line all year. In fact, I think it dries better in some of the cooler months, as long as there is a breeze and sun. I imagine it has to do with the humidity in the air. It cuts our electric bill, the sun is the best stain remover, it is better for cloth diapers, and I prefer towels, sheets and table cloths dried on the line. Depending on my time and the weather I will dry all the laundry on the line, but I usually use the line for the non- clothing items in the laundry. Being able to do something frugal for my family, while grabbing a moment of peace for me is very satisfying.
Where do you find a moment of peace and quiet? Are there simple tasks that are satisfying to you? Share your ideas!

sometimes I pretend I am still a little girl and I'm playing house- especially when I am washing dishes or getting things ready for tomorrow. I, too enjoy hanging laundry out and find peaceful moments there, but I also enjoy a few moments of quiet while feeding our 5 beagles at the back of our property. It's on the edge of the woods and it's peaceful once the dogs get their food.
We have a bathroom upstairs that has our laundry area right in it, it is also kind of roomy. I decided that it had to become a restful place for me since I am endlessly doing wash, folding and also bathing the kids (which takes about an hour and a half for all three every night).
So I put a glider type rocker in the bathroom between the tub and the toliet, hung two plants at the window, and now I do my folding in the rocker. I watch the kids in the bath, all from my little comfy spot. I hung a small quilt on the wall to make things homey and this is my nightly refuge. Prior to this I had to either sit on the floor or on the toilet to fold clothes.
Sometimes I just take a book in with me at bath time and read while they play in the water. Life is good.
Finally someone who feels as I do about hanging out the clothes. It's therapeutic for me and I especially loved your picture. Only thing is, I can't do it year-round so it's one of my favorite things about summer.
I'm hosting carnival of family life and will have yours up with the rest on Monday.
The picture isn't mine, but I liked it too!
I tried line drying for the first time last summer and LOVED it. I got started because we moved and it took a while to get the gas dryer hooked up. I loved those quiet moments to get away and be in the SUNLIGHT! I live in Southern California so I could probably line dry for most of the year... My biggest problem was not enought line and my was not properly hung either. Maybe I will work on that for this year... Thanks for the reminder of what a great experience this is!
