Singing the praises of resale
Oh, how I love resale shops! In fact, almost all of our clothing, if not a gift, comes from resale or hand me downs. Yesterday we found a new store. I got a lot of great deals and I just had to share with them with you!
This particular store has a system of rotating color tags. Some colors are full price, some 25% off and so forth up to 75% off. Looking for the right color tags can make a good deal even sweeter! Here is what I bought. I am not really up on all the brand names, but I included some if you are interested.
For the eight year old
a winter coat - $9.74
a pair of jeans (Levi's) - $4.94
For the four year old
a 2 pc velour outfit (Girls will be girls) - $7.79
jeans (Levi) $3.30
shoes (Mootsies Tootsies) - $1.20
For the two year old
jeans (Kmart brand, but brand new with the tags) - $5.79
For the 7 month old
jeans (Cherokee) - $4.59
shoes (Buster Brown) - $0.82
Grand total (with tax) - $40.46
At a quick glance, they had women's clothing at similar prices. I didn't get a chance to look closely though because the kids' attention spans (and my patience) were played out, even though Mamaw was there to help me.
I've gotten better deals at garage sales and Goodwill, but there are certain advantages to the resale shop. Things are better organized. The clothing was arranged like a retail store. Sorted by sex and then by size. I don't mind digging to see what I can find at other stores or garage sales that don't have things so organized, but when I am shopping with the kids (which is almost always) paying a little more is worth the time savings to me.
There was a fitting room. When shopping for my clothes, this is a must. Usually not so important for the kids, but right now I am having a hard time finding clothing that fit the four year old right. She is long, especially in the torso. I really appreciated her being able to try on clothing.
The added bonus of resale is I can take the clothing back to sell. Because my kids are boy, girl, boy, girl, and I have very little storage space, I do not save many things for the next kid. By selling them back, I can get about 1/2 the money back, sometimes more.
If you haven't tried resale shops before I encourage you to do so. Shopping there can save you a substantial amount.

This is really great when you are in a hurry or looking for a particular item!

A woman after my own heart! Thrift stores are even cheaper and then my all time favorite... the yard sale! Great sources of top quality children's clothing at a fraction of the retail cost!
I try to shop at thrift stores as much as I can. Around here they are rather expensive--not much selection. Next spring/summer I am planning on making some dresses for my youngest daughter. I bought patterns for 1.00 and fabric on clearance last week for this. Cute and cheap!
Another great thing about "used" clothes-if it looks good it will probably continue to look good, because you know it's already been washed a ton of times.
I got a pair of Talbot's lined pants at my goodwill for $4.99 last week (I checked their website and most of the pants ranged from $68 to $118!!). What a bargain!
This is cool :), shall check it out soon.
I love consignment stores. Especially since my girls grow out of their clothes so quickly!
